ruptur/ is a collaborative sound creation project between artist Nelly-Ève Rajotte and musician Samuel Bodony (Black Givre). In this experimental work, drumbeats are recorded, then modulated and deconstructed before being integrated into field recordings of desert landscapes. Rhythm and repetition punctuate the textured and grainy soundtrack, creating a series of sensorial breaks within a contemplative sound environment. Rhythmic patterns, used as visual stand-ins, serve as anchor points and allow listeners to navigate a space that oscillates between sound creation and musicality.

Nelly-Ève Rajotte has a BA in Art History, and an MFA in Visual and Media Arts from UQÀM. Her work has been presented in several exhibitions throughout Québec (SAT, Fonderie Darling, Parisian Laundry, Occurrence, Clark, L’Œil de Poisson and Optica), as well as numerous festivals in Canada (MUTEK, Antimatter Underground Film Festival, Festival international du film sur l’art) and internationally: International short film festival of Berlin, Transmedial.08 Berlin, Manchester UrbanScreens, EXiS2007 (Korea), Moscow International Film Festival, and the Finnish Contemporary Art Fair.

Samuel Bobony is a musician who composes improvised works in real time, combining drums and sampled textures. The album Autorail (Beaver Club/Jeunesse Cosmique) from his solo project Black Givre, was awarded Best Experimental Album at the most recent GAMIQ (Gala atlernatif de la musique indépendante du Québec). He is an active player in the Montréal music scene with his band Avec le Soleil Sortant de sa Bouche (Constellation Records) and l’étiquette Jeunesse Cosmique. In 2014, he released Explosion Therapy (Small Scale Music), Split Black Givre & Charles Barabé (La Cohu), and was invited to contribute to the MTL Tapes compilation (La Cohu).
